A Sea of Thieves inspired level design project focused on creating unique islands using assets from Synty Studios
About the Project
High Seas is a simple level design exercise that will eventually turn into a full prototype for a pirate game! I picked up a wonderful pirate art pack from Synty Studios and immediately fell in love with creating interesting islands for players to explore. The focus of this project was purely to improve my level design skills.
I worked on and off over the course of two weeks to familiarize myself with everything the asset pack had to offer and quickly started building out multiple islands. Each island serves a different purpose, one being the central city for the world map, another representing a trading outpost, and the final island offering a shipwreck for players to explore. Just watch out for those sharks!
I plan on adding a few game systems in the future:
3rd person character movement and weapon use
Ship upgrades and customization
Enemy AI fighting in different pirate ships
Quest system designed to encourage the player to explore new islands and remote areas of the map
Inventory system and ability to purchase new weapons, items, and gear
